At TCWD Water Laboratory, we go beyond the surface. Today, we're spotlighting the "Microbial Menace"—specifically E. coli and total coliforms. These indicator bacteria are essential metrics under the PNSDW 2017 & DOH standards, as their presence often signals recent contamination.
🦠 Total Coliforms: A large group of bacteria found everywhere. While most are harmless, they are a primary indicator of overall system integrity. If they are in your water, other pathogens could be too.
🦠 E. coli (Escherichia coli): This specific type of coliform originates only from the intestines of warm-blooded animals and humans. Its presence in drinking water is a serious red flag, indicating direct f***l contamination and the immediate risk of illness.

​Lab Tip The "2-3 Minute Rule" ⏱️

​Before you collect your sample, did you know you need to flush the line?
​Remove any aerators or filters from the tap.
​Open the water tap fully.
​Flush for 2 to 3 minutes.
​This clears the "stagnant" water sitting in your pipes and faucet nozzle, ensuring we test the actual quality of the water being supplied to your home or business.
