Seeing the excitement in the eyes of my fellow TRIBE Builders (who always look forward to volunteering), the solid support and encouragement from our mentors and core team, the trust and confidence from partners and stakeholders, and the warm reception and appreciation by the community – these are the fuel that keeps us going.

Despite the initial setbacks, there’s no turning back! The paradigm shift in consciousness among the youth of Talibon from apathy to co-ownership of the problem, as well as finally breaking of the Bol-anon stereotype of “Ija-Ija, Aho-Aho” (what’s yours is yours, what’s mine is mine), makes me say that these sacrifices are worth it.

In the course of six months, I would say that this rollercoaster experience have humbled and changed me a lot.

I was trapped in the shackles of cynicism and in the darkness of self-doubt. The yellow jacket inspires me to liberate myself through a leap of faith and turn my doubts into hope and visions into reality. The yellow jacket is a story of miracle of how I even got here and how I have finally found myself by losing myself in the service of others in a cause that’s much more noble and bigger than my passing needs or concerns.

This is where that crossroad of my life has brought me. The journey may be hard and is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but it was well worth it because I pursued a path that has brought me closer to my heart’s calling. And when your heart whispers to you, you can never go wrong because it never lies. With that, I will be forever grateful.
