Know your teas! 🍵 Do you have a favorite?
Important post by my friend MeowMeix!
If you follow me closely, you know I’m not a fan of anything gimmicky like “fit tea” that tries to act like a weight loss miracle; but herbal teas have been around for millenia & they’re not going anywhere. I love having an array of teas on hand for different flavor profiles & different benefits. Below are breakdown some popular ones to incorporate into your weekly schedule:
Chamomile tea - is known for it’s calming properties. This preliminary study in 2016 showed some improvements to sleep efficiency in postpartum women (1)
Hibiscus Tea - hibiscus is a bright flower that thrives in tropical climates. In this 2016 double blind trial, hibiscus tea showed positive effects on oxidative biomarkers in athletes compared to the control group (2)
Peppermint tea - Peppermint oil in numerous studies has been shown to relieve indigestion, nausea and stomach pain (3)
Sage tea - A double blind control study showed sage to improve overall mood in healthy patients (4) Other studies have shown improvements on memory tests with the use of sage extract (5)
Ginger tea - This 2016 study concluded ginger to be an effective and inexpensive treatment for nausea and vomiting (6) Additionally, this 2014 randomized trial also showed ginger capsules to help relieve period pain (7)
Rose hip tea - good source of vitamin C and other plant compounds lending it anti-inflammatory properties (8) This 2012 study found rose hip powder reduced inflammation in patients with arthritis (9)
