Tagoloan Community College College of Arts and Sciences faculty member Diopren A. Emlano successfully defended his Master of Arts in Philosophy thesis at the University of San Joseโ€“Recoletos (USJ-R) School of Arts and Sciences in Cebu City on July 20.

Prof. Emlano presented his research titled, โ€œMeaning in Absurdity and Meaninglessness of Persons with Substance Use Disorder: An Albert Camus-Inspired Approach to Safeguarding Mental Health,โ€ which examined how the philosophy of Albert Camus can provide a framework for understanding meaning and promoting mental well-being among persons with substance use disorder.

The study highlighted the relevance of existential philosophy in addressing contemporary mental health concerns, emphasizing the importance of finding meaning amid lifeโ€™s challenges and uncertainties.

His final defense was evaluated by a panel composed of Prof. de Vivar, Dr. Dayap, and Rev. Fr. Alipin, OAR. The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. G. Gulay, with Dean Dr. L. Munalim serving as chairperson during the defense.

His achievement also underscores TCCโ€™s continued support for faculty advancement through graduate education and research.

The entire TCC community extends its congratulations to Emlano on this accomplishment and looks forward to the valuable contributions his research will bring to the fields of philosophy, mental health, and community development.
