1968 Chevrolet Camaro Built by Detroit's Best Bodyman — Nobody Ordered It to Stay Off the Show Circuit.
Nobody builds a Ridler winner and then goes quiet.
Bruce Harvey won the 2023 Detroit Autorama Ridler Award with Maximus — the most prestigious prize in custom car building, back-to-back years for Pro Comp Custom. Then he built this.
The body is a 1968 Camaro. The paint is Metallic Copper, laid by Harvey himself, with airbrushed pinstripes running the length of the car. Concealed headlamps. Black bumpers and trim. Front and rear spoilers. Every panel finished to the standard that wins shows, then driven on the street.
Under the hood, Skip White built a 383 cubic inch stroker V8 — 528 horsepower, Holley Terminator X electronic fuel injection, Holley intake, Holley ignition. A Tremec 5-speed sends it to the rear. Traction bars and subframe connectors handle what the engine produces. Dual exhaust with electric cut-outs handles the sound.
The man who built the bodywork won Detroit's highest honor the same year this car was completed.
Some builds make you look. This one makes you wonder what the builder does for an encore.
