𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬/𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 (𝗜𝗣𝗠) 𝗖𝗢𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦

Pinangunahan ng Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) North Cotabato sa pamumuno ni Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Elena E. Ragonton, MPA ang Meeting of City/Municipal Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Coordinators na isinagawa sa Agri Center ng OPAG North Cotabato upang talakayin ang historical pest data at pest advisories on possible insect pests to occur during El Niño phenomenon.

Isa sa mga naging agenda ng pagpupulong ay ang presentation ng “2026 Provincial Plans and Programs on Crop Protection” na inilahad ni Rogaya S. Acoy, Provincial IPM Coordinator, kung saan tinalakay ang mga pangunahing programa at interventions ng lalawigan para sa pagpapalakas ng pest surveillance, crop protection activities, at climate-resilient agriculture initiatives bilang paghahanda sa posibleng epekto ng El Niño sa sektor ng agrikultura.

Tinalakay ni RCPC Chief Dr. Ray A. Rodriguez ang historical pest incidence data na nagpapakita ng pagtaas ng insidente ng mga pangunahing peste ng pananim tuwing may prolonged dry spell at mataas na temperatura dulot ng El Niño. Ayon sa forecast ng PAGASA, may mataas na posibilidad na mabuo ang El Niño pagsapit ng Hunyo 2026 at maaaring magpatuloy hanggang sa mga susunod na buwan, dahilan upang paigtingin ang paghahanda at monitoring activities ng mga lokal na pamahalaan at agricultural offices.

Batay sa historical pest data, kabilang sa mga pangunahing pesteng naobserbahan sa panahon ng El Niño ang Brown Planthopper (BPH), Rice Black Bug (RBB), Stem Borers, Rice Bugs, rodents, insect defoliators, leaf folder, at Fall Armyworm (FAW).

Binigyang-diin din sa pagpupulong ang pest advisories hinggil sa mga posibleng insect pests na maaaring muling magkaroon ng outbreaks habang nagpapatuloy ang El Niño conditions. Kabilang dito ang Fall Armyworm sa mais at high-value crops, Brown Planthopper at Rice Black Bug sa palay, pati na rin ang pagdami ng rodents dulot ng kakulangan sa tubig at pagkain sa natural habitats.

Kaugnay nito, inirekomenda ang pagpapalakas ng climate-based pest surveillance, regular field monitoring, synchronized planting, crop rotation, paggamit ng pest-resistant at drought-tolerant varieties at pagpapatupad ng Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies upang maagapan ang posibleng paglala ng infestation at maprotektahan ang produksyon ng agrikultura sa lalawigan.

Dinaluhan ang aktibidad nina RCPC Chief Dr. Ray A. Rodriguez at Ms. Meliza B. Caramat, Senior Science Research Specialist at Diagnostic Laboratory Unit Head, na nagbigay ng mahahalagang teknikal na updates at rekomendasyon ukol sa pest monitoring, diagnostics, at mitigation strategies laban sa epekto ng El Niño.

Tinalakay rin sa pagpupulong ang nalalapit na Farmers Forum na gaganapin sa Hunyo 22, 2026 kasabay ng Pest Management Council of the Philippines (PMCP) and Scientific Conference sa General Santos City. Kabilang sa mga paghahandaan ang pagbibigay ng updates sa pest management technologies, climate-resilient agriculture strategies, at ang pagpili ng Outstanding Farmer Awardee bilang pagkilala sa mga magsasakang may natatanging kontribusyon sa sustainable crop production at integrated pest management practices.

The Department of Agriculture 12- Regional Crop Protection Center (DA-12 RCPC) served as Resource Speaker on the topic "Integrated Pest Management" during the training on the Package of Technology (POT) for Red Onion Production, conducted by FOD on High Value Crops Development Programs (HVCDP). The two-day activity held on May 19-20, 2026 at Barangay Albagan, Tampakan, South Cotabato.

This was participated by Albagan farmers association and indigenous people of Albagan.

The RCPC continuous support on the technical assistance on the pest management strategies for all types of agricultural crops.

Ang Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XII – Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), sa pamamagitan ng Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP), ay nagbigay ng teknikal na suporta sa mga Indigenous Peoples (IP) coffee farmers mula sa Malungon at Senator Ninoy Aquino sa isinagawang capacity-building activity noong Mayo 11–13, 2026 sa General Santos City.

Layunin ng tatlong araw na aktibidad na mapalawak ang kaalaman at kakayahan ng mga IP coffee farmers hinggil sa sustainable coffee production, lalo na sa tamang pamamahala ng mga peste at sakit na nakaaapekto sa produksyon ng kape sa rehiyon. Naging daan din ito upang mapalakas ang kamalayan ng mga magsasaka sa paggamit ng mga siyentipiko at makakalikasang pamamaraan sa crop protection at farm management.

Bilang bahagi ng lecture sessions, tinalakay ni Dr. Ray Rodriguez, Chief ng Regional Crop Protection Center, ang mga pangunahing hamon sa produksyon ng kape, partikular ang pagdami ng mga insect pests at sakit sa taniman ng kape. Binigyang-diin niya ang kahalagahan ng maagang pagtukoy, regular na field monitoring, at agarang pagpapatupad ng naaangkop na intervention measures upang mabawasan ang pinsala at mapataas ang produksyon.

Samantala, ibinahagi naman ni Ms. Meliza Caramat, Senior Science Research Specialist, ang mga prinsipyo at pamamaraan ng Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Tinalakay niya ang paggamit ng mga makakalikasang, episyente, at sustenableng pamamaraan sa pagkontrol ng peste, kabilang ang cultural, biological, mechanical, at chemical control methods upang mabawasan ang infestation habang pinangangalagaan ang kapaligiran at mga kapaki-pakinabang na organismo.

Upang higit na mapalawak ang praktikal na kaalaman ng mga kalahok, nagsagawa rin ng hands-on activities at field demonstrations sa DA-Tupi Research and Experiment Station sa Bololmala, Tupi. Dito ay ginabayan ang mga IP coffee farmers sa tamang sampling techniques, field monitoring procedures, at iba pang recommended crop protection practices na mahalaga upang mapanatiling malusog at produktibo ang kanilang mga taniman ng kape.

Sa pamamagitan ng aktibong pakikilahok sa MIADP capacity-building activity, muling pinagtibay ng Regional Crop Protection Center ang kanilang pangako sa pagsusulong ng sustainable at matatag na produksyon ng kape sa Region XII sa pamamagitan ng tuloy-tuloy na pagbibigay ng teknikal na suporta, research-based extension services, at pagpapalakas ng mga crop protection initiatives para sa mga magsasaka.

On May 5, The Regional Crop Protection Center Staff Attended and Served as Resource Person on the Harvest Festival for Adaptive Balanced Fertilization (ABFS) – Corn at Brgy. Bai Saripinang, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.

This meaningful activity gathered farmers, stakeholders, and agricultural practitioners to promote the adoption of science-based and site-specific nutrient management practices for improved corn productivity and sustainable farming systems.

The program was highlighted by inspiring messages from:
• Emmanuel L. Asug – Municipal Agriculturist, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat, who emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the LGU and farmers in adopting modern technologies to boost productivity and ensure food security.

• Shamin L. Camlian – Agriculturist II, DA-RFO XII; Representative of Dr. John B. Pascual, DVM, Regional Executive Director, who conveyed the Department’s continued support for ABFS initiatives that promote innovation, proper nutrient management, and sustainable agriculture.

Through this initiative, DA-RFO XII, RCPC XII, and the ABFS Implementation Team continue to strengthen farmer capacity by promoting efficient, science-based, and sustainable agricultural practices.

In Photos | The Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) actively participated in the Online Retooling on the PRIME Pest Surveillance Protocol held on April 22–23, 2026.

This activity aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of technical staff in implementing standardized pest surveillance, monitoring, and reporting systems under the PRIME Project. Through this retooling, RCPC personnel are better equipped to ensure accurate data collection, timely pest detection, and effective response strategies to support farmers in the region.

The training highlighted updated protocols, harmonized procedures, and practical approaches to improve pest management efforts—contributing to sustainable rice production and food security.
