PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION
Luke 19:28-40

Jesus proceeded on his journey up to Jerusalem.
As he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany
at the place called the Mount of Olives,
he sent two of his disciples.
He said, "Go into the village opposite you,
and as you enter it you will find a c**t tethered
on which no one has ever sat.
Untie it and bring it here.
And if anyone should ask you,
'Why are you untying it?'
you will answer,
'The Master has need of it.'"
So those who had been sent went off
and found everything just as he had told them.
And as they were untying the c**t, its owners said to them,
"Why are you untying this c**t?"
They answered,
"The Master has need of it."
So they brought it to Jesus,
threw their cloaks over the c**t,
and helped Jesus to mount.
As he rode along,
the people were spreading their cloaks on the road;
and now as he was approaching the slope of the Mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of his disciples
began to praise God aloud with joy
for all the mighty deeds they had seen.
They proclaimed:
"Blessed is the king who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven
and glory in the highest."
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him,
"Teacher, rebuke your disciples."
He said in reply,
"I tell you, if they keep silent,
the stones will cry out!"

HOLY WEEK

Holy Week is the final week of Lent and is a significant time in the Christian liturgical calendar. It commemorates the events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week begins with Palm Sunday and includes several important days:

1. Palm Sunday: This day celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where people laid palm branches in His path. It marks the beginning of Holy Week.

2. Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Holy Wednesday: These days are often observed with reflections on the teachings and actions of Jesus during His final days, including His confrontations with religious leaders.

3. Maundy Thursday: This day commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and washed the feet of His disciples, demonstrating humility and service.

4. Good Friday This solemn day remembers the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and penance, and many Christians participate in the Stations of the Cross or attend a Good Friday service.

5. Holy Saturday: This day is a time of waiting and reflection, as Christians prepare for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.

6. Easter Sunday: Although technically not part of Holy Week, Easter Sunday is the culmination of Holy Week, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which is the foundation of Christian faith.

Holy Week is a time for Christians to reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and to deepen their faith through prayer, worship, and participation in liturgical ceremonies.

For further understanding, you can refer to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, particularly paragraphs discussing the significance of the Paschal Mystery (CCC 571-573).
