ART 1: Music Creation Softwares
Let's talk about music related applications.
As a composer, arranger and music producer its really important to have a Notation Software and DAW as part of music creation.
What is a DAW?
- DAW or Digital Audio Workstation is an application that allows you to compose, record, edit audio, mix and master audio. This is also described as a virtual studio where you can load virtual instruments and effects.
What is Notation Software?
- It used for notating, compose, engrave, transcribe and to print music.
There are free software that really available that you can download for free.
1. Musescore
- Despite of being free, musescore can compete with the paid ones like sibelus and dorico. You can have unlimited number of instruments that capable of writing for larger ensemble like orchestra. It has features that also available to the software mentioned above like for example the implode and explode. That feature can save you a lot of time when you are working in a large ensembles like orchestra.
2. Cakewalk by Bandlab (Formerly Sonar) - Windows only
- This DAW has been center of my production. It's the most complete DAW that available for free. You can compose, arrange, mix and master music. You can group tracks into busses that can be helpful in mixing. This DAW can be use also for film scoring (but the workflow for that is not good as Cubase)
3. Bandlab
- Best DAW for mobile platforms. Good for demos and collaborations. This DAW it can have up to 16 tracks and also you can record it using your phone (latency is the only problem) It has sampler and you can load your custom samples or build a drum kit.
