CHIZ WELCOMES KOKO'S OFFER TO HELP DRAFT IMPEACHMENT RULES

Senate President Chiz Escudero on Monday, March 3, welcomed Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel's offer to assist in drafting the Senate's impeachment rules.

"I welcome and thank Sen. Pimentel's offer to help draft the proposed rules. I will instruct the legal team to coordinate with him on this matter. Again, all of these (rules, calendar, etc.) are simply proposals that will have to be approved in plenary and/or by the Impeachment Court once we resume and/or convene.," Escudero said.

Pimentel earlier expressed his willingness to lead the formulation of impeachment rules following Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino's suggestion that he take on the task through a special subcommittee.

"Walang problema. Lima lang kaming abogado sa Senate ngayon, so baka wala nang ibang choice. Hintay muna ako sa official assignment. Then, discuss ko sa staff ko. Pero just like Sen. Tol, I am also a candidate but I am willing to devote time to our duty," Pimentel told Senate reporters on Sunday, March 2.
