𝑵𝑬𝑾𝑺 | 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗛𝗦 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺

The Grade Level Conference highlighted the introduction of the new Senior High School (SHS) curriculum through a career talk titled “Examining Destinations in SHS” delivered by Dr. Dennis Niño Ancheta, discussing the updates and opportunities that await students entering SHS.

Dr. Ancheta shared that this batch will be the first to experience the new SHS curriculum, which focuses on developing middle skills and providing learners with more practical options after graduation.

“Basta 18 ka, tapos ka na ng SHS, puwede ka na magtrabaho,” said Dr. Ancheta, emphasizing that SHS offers three possible paths for students — trabaho, negosyo, o kolehiyo.

Senior High School, which began in 2014 and was officially implemented in 2016, serves as the last two years of the K–12 program, covering Grades 11 and 12.

Students take both core subjects and specialized lessons depending on their chosen track.

In the previous curriculum, there were four SHS tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational, Sports, and Arts and Design.

Under the new setup, these are streamlined into two major tracks — Academic and Technical Professional (TechPro) — to simplify pathways and improve employability.

The new SHS curriculum introduces updated core subjects such as Effective Communication, Life Skills, General Mathematics, General Science, and Araling Panlipunan (Pag-aaral sa Kasaysayang Panlipunan).

Dr. Ancheta explained that their track already includes Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-equivalent skills and certifications.

“Kung TechPro kayo, di na need mag-enroll sa TESDA, kasi kung anong gusto niyo sa TESDA, nasa TechPro na,” he said.

Ancheta also discussed the Voucher Program, which supports public school completers who plan to study in private SHS institutions.

The government will shoulder ₱17,500 per year for tuition, although some private schools may require additional top-up fees.

He also announced that allocations for SHS private schools are set to begin next week.

Dr. Ancheta concluded his talk with an inspiring reminder for students: “If you want to become successful, wag muna puro sarap. A goal without a plan is just really a wish.”

𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑹𝑻𝑺 | 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Ellsworth Francis T. Roldan from 9-Agila earned a bronze medal in the Provincial Meet Chess Tournament held from October 25 to 29 at San Mateo Senior High School.

Representing Tagumpay National High School and the municipality of Montalban in the secondary boys’ division, Roldan displayed focus and tactical skill as he competed in nine rounds each of blitz and standard chess throughout the five-day event, which brought together top players from across the province.

Earlier in the Municipal Meet, Roldan also secured a bronze medal in the individual category and helped his team win gold, which qualified him for the provincial level.

“I felt relieved that I managed to get bronze, but I feel a bit disappointed knowing I could’ve done better,” Roldan shared.

“During my training and preparation, I really worked on eliminating my bad habits. I think it paid off because I noticed some of my opponents making similar mistakes, which I used to my advantage.”

Roldan’s bronze finish added to Montalban’s medal tally in the 2025 Provincial Meet.
