Officer David Ronk lost his life while carrying out his duty to serve a temporary protective order at a residence on Farrington Highway. During the operation, he discovered the suspect concealed inside a closet within the home.
As Officer Ronk attempted to take the individual into custody, a violent struggle broke out. In the chaos, the suspect managed to seize the officer’s service weapon and fatally shoot him. The assailant, a 19-year-old man, was later arrested, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Officer Ronk’s death marked a tragic loss for both his department and the community he served. He is remembered for his dedication to public safety and was survived by his wife, who was left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and courageous law enforcement officer.
