The Marcos Jr administration has pushed the national government’s outstanding debt to a record Php18.5 trillion as of March 2026. At an average increase of Php126.6 billion every month, Marcos Jr’s borrowing far outpaces previous administrations. Rising debt means larger interest payments that drain public funds away from urgently needed services such as health, education, and social protection.
