| Imee withdraws claims amid Senate propaganda dispute
Sen. Imee Marcos withdrew allegations that minority senators were involved in a plot to amend the Constitution after lawmakers condemned a video shown during her privilege speech as misleading and unverified.
The issue drew attention after Marcos presented claims that several political figures had discussed charter change proposals, including extending the terms of elected officials.
Minority senators rejected the accusations, with Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri describing the video as propaganda and calling for its removal from the Senate record.
Former Senate President Vicente Sotto III and former Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza denied any involvement in efforts to push for charter change.
Several senators warned that spreading alleged false information could further damage public trust in the Senate.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano later urged Marcos to withdraw her statements, which she eventually agreed to do.
The incident highlighted growing political tensions within the Senate over accountability, transparency, and misinformation.
