On February 10, 2026, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples who live together may be recognized as co-owners of property they acquired if there is evidence that both partners contributed to the purchase or improvement of the property. This recognition is based on Article 148 of the Family Code, which governs property relations for couples who cannot legally marry. Same-sex partners fall under this rule because Philippine law currently recognizes marriage only between a man and a woman.

This Supreme Court ruling is a landmark step toward equality: it affirms that same-sex couples have the right to be seen, protected, and treated fairly under the law recognizing their shared labor, love, and contributions, even as marriage equality remains denied. Legal recognition may be limited, but legal invisibility is no longer acceptable.

Today, January 12, 2026, PSU PRIDE, represented by its Chairperson Love Molina, Campus Trustee Soljay Savilla, and Deputy Director for Communications and Linkages Joshua Peneyra, officially filed three landmark gender-inclusive policies aimed at upholding gender equality and fostering safer environments within University spaces. This move marks a significant step toward institutionalizing protections for the diverse student body of Palawan State University.

The proposed policies focus on three key areas: (1) Gender-Fair Guidelines on Affirming Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Students' Names, Pronouns, and Titles in University Spaces; (2) Gender-Affirming Graduation Rites; and (3) a University-wide Menstrual Wellness and Reproductive Health Accommodation Policy. These initiatives seek to address systemic barriers and ensure that every student's identity and well-being are recognized and protected.

PSU PRIDE reaffirms its commitment to championing inclusive education and cultivating an academic environment where all students can thrive without fear of discrimination or exclusion.
