TMC Psychiatry and Center For Behavioral Health
In the quiet moments at the end of life, stories become bridges—to meaning, to healing, and to those we leave behind.
We look back on the 3rd Lourdes V. Lapuz (LVL) Memorial Lecture of the Department of Psychiatry of The Medical City, held on April 8, 2026 at 6-8PM:
“Meaning, Healing, and the Power of the Written Word: Dignity Therapy and Legacy Making in End-of-Life Care.”
Lecture was done by Dr. Kathryn-Daphne Ong, a psychiatrist, bioethicist, and psycho-oncologist, the session invited us to move beyond symptom management and into the sacred space of narrative legacy. Through Dignity Therapy, we reflected on how honoring and reframing a patient’s story can serve as a powerful, evidence-based pathway to healing that transcends physical decline.
As we share this glimpse of the event, may it continue to inspire us to care not only for our patients’ conditions, but for their stories, and the legacies they leave behind.

In the profound silence that often surrounds the end of life, the stories we leave behind become the ultimate bridges to healing.
Dr. Kathryn-Daphne Ong, invites us to move beyond symptom management of our terminally ill patients, and into the sacred space of narrative legacy. Centering on meaning and healing through the written word, this lecture will explore Dignity Therapy as a powerful, evidence-based approach to legacy making. Together, we will reflect on how recording and reframing a patient’s journey serves as a therapeutic catalyst, facilitating a form of healing that transcends beyond physical decline.
Join us to elevate your practice in end-of-life psychological care, and learn how to help your patients navigate their final chapter with dignity, purpose, and a voice that endures.
