FAQ. Is it practical to hire a consultant, designer, or estimator if the owner has no intention to proceed with the construction yet?

ANSWER: Definitely yes but don't proceed with the full design and production of construction documents yet. What you need in this early stage of your proposed project is the CONCEPT DESIGN and PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE. If you have the concept design, you will have an idea of how your project will look like and how much will it cost when completed. There will be minor revisions for the concept design prior to production of the construction documents. But this should not worry the owner since generally, the design and estimate will remain the same.
