Nilagdaan ni Pangulong Elpidio R. Quirino ang Executive Order No. 396 noong Enero 3, 1951. Sa bisa nito, pinagkaisa ang lahat ng social welfare programs sa iisang ahensya. Dito isinilang ang Social Welfare Administration, na kalaunan ay naging Department of Social Welfare and Development.

𝗞𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘁: Grace Montesclaros and Nechel Panao are two of the ten Social Workers from DSWD 8 who have been augmented to assist in providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) to the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu, which affected numerous individuals and families.

They are assigned to various evacuation centers to ensure that Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) receive proper care and support for their psychosocial well-being.
