Studies report a prevalence of around 6% in physically active populations, with incidence rates of 7โ€“9% in runners, and lifetime risk reaching up to 24% in athletes (Wang et al., 2022; Maffulli et al., 2003; Maffulli et al., 2010).

Symptoms such as pain, stiffness, tightness, and tenderness often develop gradually due to repeated stress, limited mobility, and inefficient movement patterns.

IASTM helps by addressing contributing factors around the tendon, particularly calf tightness, ankle mobility, and soft tissue movement which in turn allows the area to better handle load when combined with proper exercise and progression.
