TROPICAL DEPRESSION “DOMENG” MAINTAINS ITS STRENGTH AND IS NOW MOVING NORTHWARD.
Location of Center (4:00 AM): The center of Tropical Depression “DOMENG” was estimated based on all available data at 950 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (19.7°N, 131.0°E)
Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa
Present Movement: Northward 20 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds: Strong winds extend outwards up to 150 km from the center
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
Heavy Rains
• In the next 24 hours, the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression “DOMENG” and Severe Tropical Storm “CHABA” (formerly “CALOY”) will bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon. For more information, refer to the 24-Hour Public Weather Forecast issued at 4:00 AM today.
Severe Winds
• No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted for this tropical cyclone.
• The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by this tropical depression and “CHABA” will bring occasionally gusty conditions reaching strong breeze to near gale in strength over Extreme Northern Luzon, the northern and western portions of Luzon, and the western portion of Visayas. These conditions are more likely in coastal and mountainous/upland localities of these areas.
HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
• Under the influence of Tropical Depression “DOMENG” and Severe Tropical Storm {CHABA} (Formerly “Caloy”) and the prevailing Southwest Monsoon, a Gale Warning remains in effect over the western seaboards of Luzon. For more information, refer to Gale Warning #2 issued at 5:00 AM today. Furthermore, moderate to rough seas (2.1 to 4.0 m) over the remaining seaboards of Northern Luzon. These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• Tropical Depression “DOMENG” is forecast to gradually accelerate north northwestward over the next three days and remain far from the Philippine landmass. On the forecast track, “DOMENG” may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday (2 July) morning or afternoon. Outside the PAR region, the tropical cyclone is forecast to pass very close or make landfall in the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands on Saturday afternoon or evening.
• “DOMENG” is forecast to reach tropical storm category in the next 12 hours. A peak intensity of around 85 km/h may be reached by Saturday.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
