DORSU Math Program

𝐃𝐎𝐫𝐒𝐔 𝐁𝐒 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝟓-𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝

Faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BSM) Program of Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) actively participated in the Computational Science Summer School 2025 (CSSS2025) on Optimization and Modelling in Finance and Bioscience. The event was held on February 17-25, 2025, at Silpakorn University, Nakhon Pathon, Thailand.

The conference gathered experts, researchers, and scholars from 15 institutions across seven countries: China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Germany, and Thailand. The event served as a platform for academic exchange and collaboration, featuring cutting-edge research in pure and applied mathematics.

Other than DOrSU, four universities from the Philippines also participated in the event: Caraga State University (CSU), University of the Philippines Baguio (UP Baguio), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), and University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).

DOrSU was well-represented by Dr. Emmanuel B. Barbas, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering, and Technology (FaCET), along with Dr. Rodrigo A. Salimaco, Jr., Program Head of BSM, and esteemed BSM faculty members Dr. Danilo O. Jacobe, Ms. Nikka Agbas-Singh, and Mr. Algasher B. Ato.

CSSS2025 featured a series of special talks and invited lectures by esteemed experts from different international universities. Distinguished discussions included topics on dynamical modeling for biomedical sciences, financial mathematics, deep learning applications in optimization, and experimental design in biochemistry. Among the keynote speakers were Prof. Yongwimon Lenbury from the Centre of Excellence in Mathematics, Thailand; Prof. Parin Chaipunya from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand; and Dr. Ekaterina Kostina from Heidelberg University, Germany.

Dr. Salimaco presented his research titled "𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘐𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 (𝘏𝘐𝘝) 𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘰 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘕𝘕 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘙𝘐𝘔𝘈," contributing valuable insights into the application of artificial neural networks in disease forecasting. Additionally, Dr. Jacobe and Ms. Agbas-Singh showcased their research through poster presentations on "𝘈 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯" and "𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘱: 𝘈 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘜𝘈𝘚𝘛 𝘌𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯," respectively.

Beyond attending lectures and research presentations, the DOrSU faculty engaged in academic immersion activities, observing an independent learning-based time series analysis class and visiting Silpakorn University's mathematics and statistics laboratories. These experiences offered insights into innovative teaching, advanced computational tools, and potential research collaborations.
