NEWS | 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧: 𝐂𝐍𝐒𝐌’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐂 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics transformed the Riconalla Building into an arena of wit and words as it hosted the first-ever CNSM Inter-Departmental Debate Championship on November 28–29, 2025. Held at the CNSM Conference Room and launched in celebration of the college’s 40th founding anniversary, the two-day tournament gathered the sharpest undergraduate debaters from across CNSM for a spirited battle of logic.

Marking a historic milestone for both the college and Inventus, its official Debate Guild, the championship adopted the British Parliamentary Format, challenging teams to deliver sharp analysis across two preliminary rounds before advancing to the grand finale. The tournament was headed by 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗦. 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴, President of Inventus, with 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗮 𝗠. 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗼, Vice President of Inventus, ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of the competition. Each department fielded its own delegation of debaters and adjudicators, showcasing the academic diversity and intellectual vibrance of CNSM.

Guided by a powerhouse adjudication core—𝗔𝘆𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗮-𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗵 𝗗. 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗮, 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗩. 𝗨𝗺𝗮𝗻, and 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮 𝗧. 𝗨𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁—the tournament also stood out for its lineup of memorable team names from Mathematics and Biology, whose entries combined humor, depth, and competitive discipline.

After intense preliminaries, four teams secured their spots in the finals. Biology dominated the speaker rankings, with several ties marking just how close the battle for individual honors was. 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿, impressing the panel with her compelling Leader of Opposition performance.

In a gripping 3–2 decision, “𝗦𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿-𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴”—𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿-𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗛. 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗣. 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗼𝗿—𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗡𝗦𝗠 𝗜𝗗𝗗𝗖 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲, completing Biology’s sweep of both the overall crown and the speaker awards.

More than a competition, the 2025 CNSM IDDC highlighted camaraderie, critical thinking, and the growing culture of debate within the college. As the final applause echoed through the CNSM Conference Room, it was clear that this landmark event has set the stage for an even brighter future for debating in CNSM.

For four decades, CNSM has stood as a home to the fiercest fighters, brightest minds, and most dedicated scholars. This year, the college lights up its milestone celebration with the much-awaited Grand Magic Games, anchored on the theme “𝘾𝙉𝙎𝙈 @40: 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.” The event not only highlights CNSM’s legacy but also showcases the unbreakable spirit of its community—students, faculty, and alumni who continue to push the boundaries of science and discovery.

In this magical arena, the four guilds—𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲’𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡, 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲’𝐬 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬’ 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥, and 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬’ 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐬—are set to clash in a battle of wit, skill, and camaraderie. Each guild brings its own strengths and story, but only one will rise to claim the top rank. WHO WILL IT BE?

As CNSM marks this remarkable moment, may it continue to inspire generations of aspiring scientists and mathematicians to innovate, explore, and strive.
