From the fall of Adam, to the time of Abraham, to the time of Moses, to the time of the Prophets, and to the time of the great Kings, one thing remained consistent. That the love of God will endure, and the love that the Father manifests and teaches through the Son is a sacrificial kind of Love. As if throughout the ages, God is telling us that if you want to love someone, it entails sacrifice.

The Lord Jesus, throughout His earthly journey spoke only about love and its sacrificial nature, although, as the heart of man struggles to understand what He is teaching, He remained persistent and persevered to demonstrate such love to the point of death on a cross. That through that very act of selflessness and obedience, He was exalted and glorified.

The empty tomb is the greatest manifestation of the exaltation and glory given to Christ. That in the darkness and silence of the tomb, came the light and joy of His resurrection.

The bitterness of the cross, was replaced by sweet triumph of the resurrection.

Christ broke the prison bars of death, and the trumpet of salvation was heard all throughout creation.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Good Friday

ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴀɴ ᴏғ sᴏʀʀᴏᴡs, ᴀᴄǫᴜᴀɪɴᴛᴇᴅ ᴡɪᴛʜ ɢʀɪᴇғ

When the Israelites cursed God, they were infested with venomous serpents. However, when they repented, God instructed Moses to craft a bronze image of a serpent, and who ever took a glance at the serpent with belief, lived and did not die.

The reason why the Israelites cursed God is due to their impatience and ingratitude while on the journey towards the promised land. A notion which was reflected upon their sentiments that they would rather be slaves in Egypt than be journeying in the wilderness.

In our own life journey, we often encounter discomfort and struggles, which sometimes makes us feel weary, frustrated, and impatient, which then makes us irritable and impulsive, leading us to be ungrateful and arrogant, which then branches off to pride and disobedience, then eventually to sin, or spiritual death.

The serpents bit those who did not wanted to follow the path which God prepared, but as the bronze serpent was lifted up in the desert, the Son of Man was also lifted up to bring forth life and healing to who would look at Him and believe in Him.

Like the bronze being molded in heat and hammer blows, Christ bore the suffering of those who strayed from the journey. He embraced the humiliation and pain, agony and loneliness, extreme misery and grief. He endured and became patient along the journey that His father prepared for Him.
Jesus, being true God, made Himself vulnerable for us and became Man. He took all the serpents’ bites that was meant for us.

Christ became obedient for us unto death, even unto death on a cross. And because of this, God greatly exalted Him.

Maundy Thursday

At the table, Christ gave His command to love one another as He has loved them. A kind of love that sacrifices oneself for the other. A sacrificial type of love.

In the Jewish traditions, on the night at the beginning of Passover, they would do the traditional Passover seder. It is a form of ritual which involves the retelling of the story of how the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. This tradition is based on God’s command; “You shall tell your child on that day, saying, ’it is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt’”

In parallel to Christ’s last supper, as He and His disciples are lawful and faithful in practicing the Jewish faith, was also doing the rite. But in the midst of it, Christ instituted a new remembrance, an new mandate, unto which in this ritual, the world will be reminded of what the Lord has done for us when we came out of slavery from sin.

A reminder of the new and eternal covenant, not only for Jews, bur for everyone. That through the breaking of the bread, we are reminded of how Christ became obedient to the father’s will, letting His body be broken and His blood to be shed for the salvation of humanity.

To add to this, speaking more in a theological perspective, the bread and wine offered and consecrated in the last supper truly becomes the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus (John 6:53-57). Not a mere symbol, nor symbolic presence, but the real presence of our Lord, shrouded in the appearance of bread. Furthermore, Christ’s command to be remembered in such way, is not merely a symbolic reminder, but is mystical in nature which transcends time. Thus, fitting for adoration and worship.

As worship in its true nature and essence is sacrificial. Nothing that is created in the physical universes is worthy to be a sacrifice of atonement to God but He Himself, through Christ Jesus, who is true God and true man (Philippians 2:6-11). Thus, every bread and wine, consecrated in every eucharistic celebration, transubstantiate into the real presence of Jesus, the most fitting and worthy sacrifice to the Father, in memorial to what He has done for the world out of love (Luke 22:19-20).

Therefore, the eucharistic worship is a retelling of a love story. As the word “eucharist” translates into “thanksgiving”, we are reminded that on the night before Christ was betrayed, He gave thanks to the Father’s ultimate expression of love. A love that is so sweet, despite it being expressed in a way so bitter. A selfless love which says, this is my body, I offer it for you because I Love you.

O Sacrament most Holy Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.

And for that, may God be praised.

Holy Tuesday

F̶O̶R̶G̶I̶V̶E̶N̶, B̶U̶T̶ N̶E̶V̶E̶R̶ F̶O̶R̶G̶O̶T̶T̶E̶N̶

Jesus was distressed as he sat with the disciples and warned that one of them would betray him. Simon Peter, asked Jesus about whom he was referring to. Jesus answered that after dipping the bread, He will give it to His betrayer. And so, Jesus gave it to Judas, and as soon as Satan entered Judas, Jesus told him "Hurry and do what you must!". The disciples didn't understand why. After Judas snatched the bread, he immediately departed. Since Judas had the money bag, some believed it was to buy food for the feast or to help the less fortunate.

Jesus then instructed his followers to seek him out and that he would only be with them for a short while longer. When Peter asked about where he was headed, Jesus said that Peter could not accompany him at this time but would do so later. Peter asked "Lord, why can't I follow You now? I am ready to die for you." Then Jesus answered, "Are you really ready to die for me? I am telling you, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."

As human beings, we too have betrayed Jesus and those around us multiple times. We have broken bread with Jesus in the Eucharist, and then turned our back on Him by the way we treat those around us. But despite how many times we sin or betray Jesus, He will always forgive us because He loves us so much. The Lord Jesus waits for us to return to Him at all times! His mercy, forgiveness, and unwavering love are always waiting to embrace us once more. May we intentionally journey this path with Jesus going forward.

Palm Sunday

ᴛʜᴇ ᴛʀɪᴜᴍᴘʜᴀɴᴛ ᴇɴᴛʀʏ ᴏғ ᴊᴇsᴜs ᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄɪᴛʏ ᴏғ ᴊᴇʀᴜsᴀʟᴇᴍ.

Days before He suffered, the Son of man entered the Holy City while riding on a donkey as a fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy (Zechariah 9:9). The people welcomed Him with full might, waving palm leaves, singing songs pf praise which says “ Hosanna to the son of David!” And “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”. A fitting welcome for the King of Kings.

However, as the Jesus is divine, only He knows what was about to take place in the following days. He knows that these people are who sings “Hosanna!”, are the same people who will cry out His condemnation, “Crucify Him!”.

The Lord entered the Gates of Jerusalem as if a sheep entering willingly to the slaughter house. My feeble mind can only guess the thoughts that went through our Lord’s mind during these moments. I could only imagine, that as He knows what was about to happen through His divine thoughts, I also ponder that His Human thoughts experienced anxiety and trembling. But Christ, as a humble and obedient son to the Father, fulfilled the Father’s will to His death (Philippians 2:8). That through the Father’s love, and the obedient of His only son, the world was ransomed.

And for that, May God be praised!

The season of Lent is a call to return home. To reunite and be reconciled with our Heavenly Father, through Christ.
