The " Ruling" Ignores the Barren Reality of South Korea's Press
The Supreme Court released a final ruling stating that the of three YTN employees including the former union leader Noh Jong-myeon who engaged in collective action against the appointment of the company’s president "selected from above" were legitimate. Yesterday, in a Supreme Court case questioning the validity of the disciplinary measures taken by the company, a case filed by former union leader Noh and his colleagues, the bench accepted the ruling from the High Court which stated that "The layoffs were legitimate." The case comes to a close after six years since the workers were laid off in October 2008. We find the ruling regrettable for it ignores the unique features and reality faced by the press in South Korea.

Apartment security guards face massive layoffs
The National Human Rights Commission is urging the government to protect tens of thousands of apartment building security guards who face a potential layoff because of a scheduled wage increase next year.
"We ask the Ministry of Employment and Labor to take necessary measures so that they can keep their jobs," the commission said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement comes amid a change in an enforcement ordinance that will guarantee a government-set minimum wage to these workers starting on Jan. 1. Residents or building managers who fail to pay the money will be punished. Their salary is now 90 percent of the minimum wage.

At every major election - the by-election on Oct. 26, 2011, the general election on Apr. 11, 2012, and the presidential election on Dec. 19, 2012 - the South Korean military’s Cyber Warfare Command has actively sided with the Saenuri Party (NFP), a document shows.
This is the first time that reports have confirmed the specific ways in which cyber command agents were interfering in politics, which included posting and sharing messages on Twitter and other social media.
According to the list of charges against Ok Do-kyung and Yeon Je-wook, former directors of the cyber command, that the Hankyoreh received from the office of Saenuri Party (NFP) lawmaker Jeon Hae-cheol on Nov. 19, the Cyber Command made a concerted effort during every major election.
