On February 14, 1946, exactly 80 years ago, Philippine Airlines proudly resumed operations, marking the beginning of the country’s post-war recovery and a renewed chapter in Philippine aviation.

Don Andres Soriano led the ceremonies, which were attended by a modest yet excited crowd. At 7:00 AM, a Douglas DC-3 bearing the fitting registry PI-C14 lifted off from the sprawling Nielson Airfield, bound for Legaspi, Tacloban, and Cebu.

If you’re an aviation enthusiast and find yourself in New York, a visit to the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island is an absolute must. Its remarkable collection offers a deep appreciation of the vital role New York played in the history of aviation. Many legendary companies, such as Grumman, Curtiss, and Republic Aviation can trace their roots to the region. Even the iconic Pan Am began its flying-boat operations in Manhasset Bay on Long Island.

The museum and its dedicated staff have lovingly restored authentic aircraft built by these pioneering companies, bringing aviation history vividly to life. Beyond aviation, the museum also features an impressive space exploration section that chronicles one of the 20th century’s most ambitious human endeavors: reaching the Moon. Among its highlights is an actual Apollo Lunar Module, LM-13 which was meant for a future mission which never pushed. It is one of only three remaining on Earth.

With that said, the Museum is truly Informative and inspiring. The Cradle of Aviation Museum is a destination not to be missed. ✈️🚀
