UE Trustee and Former Vice Chairman is Appointed DOTr Secretary!
Congratulations to former UE Vice Chairman and incumbent Board of Trustees Member Jaime J. Bautista, one of the longtime leaders of the University of the East, on being appointed by President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the incoming new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr)!
Mr. Bautista was UE Vice Chairman of the Board from July 2002 until his retirement in September 2019. He had been a Member of the UE Board of Trustees since May 1991 until the effectivity of his DOTr appointment. He was likewise a Member of the Board of Trustees of the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc. (UERMMMCI).
A native of Cabanatuan City in the province of Nueva Ecija, Mr. Bautista is a certified public accountant by profession who had earned his degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, in 1977 from Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila, on an accounting scholarship. He was conferred the Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa, by Central Luzon State University in 2018.
He is likewise an incumbent member of the Board of Directors of Cosco Capital Inc., the Philippine Bank of Communication, Alphaland Corporation, Airspeed International Corporation, Gothong Southern Shipping Corporation, and the International School of Sustainable Tourism. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of the Philippine Eagle Foundation.
Mr. Bautista’s long and storied professional and managerial career features various key positions in several corporations. But he is best known for his leadership stint at Philippine Airlines, Inc., where he rose within the ranks to ultimately become PAL President and Chief Operating Officer for two terms: in 2004 to 2012 and from 2014 to 2019. In 2018, Philippine Airlines became certified as a 4-star airline by international air transport rating organization Skytrax, making the flag carrier the first and only carrier in the Philippines to achieve that rating.
Mr. Bautista’s PAL stint had resulted in several awards, including as Orient Aviation Magazine’s Person of the Year 2007 and as one of People Asia magazine’s People of the Year 2010. Many would remember seeing then Philippine Airlines President Bautista accompanying then Philippine visitor Pope Francis on the latter’s PAL flight back to Rome, Italy, on January 19, 2015.
As Department of Transportation Secretary, Mr. Bautista is expected to oversee various projects and concerns involving public transportation and the railway, aviation, and maritime sectors.

They are looking for all levels of Chefs, from Commis de Cuisine to Demi Chef de Parties, Chef de Partie, Commis Pastry, and Demi Chef de Partie Pastry. They will also be looking for Hotel Assistants in Galley, restaurants, Bar, Housekeeping, Inventory, and Laundrymen.
Applicants should have at least one year of recent related experience in 4-to-5-star hotels and resorts or fine-dining full-service restaurants.

Distinguished UE Graduate, Former UE President-CAO Baltazar Endriga Passes Away
The University of the East deeply mourns the passing of Dr. Baltazar Nacion Endriga, one of its highly esteemed alumni who was a former UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan Dean and former UE President and Chief Academic Officer. President Endriga passed away this Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022. He was 82.
Born on December 21, 1939, in Davao City and raised in Libagon, Southern Leyte, Dr. Endriga graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from UE CBA Manila in 1960.
He was a Johnson Foundation Scholar and Peter Deuticke Fellow at the Harvard Business School, from which he earned his Master in Business Administration degree.
Dr. Endriga served as Alumni Partner of SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co., and Managing Director and President of Andersen Consulting Philippines, a multinational business and IT company, after earning his degrees.
In 1995, he was appointed by then Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos as President of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). He served as the institution’s President until 1999. He returned to the CCP in 2001 as part of its Board of Trustees and served as such until his demise.
Dr. Endriga became the Dean of UE CBA Caloocan in 2003. On August 1 of the same year, he succeeded Dr. Josefina R. Cortes as the President and Chief Academic Officer of his Alma Mater. He held the position until July 2005.
In 2010, Dr. Endriga founded Meridian International College (MINT College), applying international standards to college education coupled with unique attributes that further enhance all programs being offered.
Dr. Endriga was recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission as Outstanding Professional of the Year in Accountancy during the 2021 PRC Awards on November 15, 2021.
On UE’s end, Dr. Endriga was honored as one of the University’s 75 Most Outstanding Alumni in an online ceremony on October 2, 2021, as part of the University’s 75th Anniversary celebration.
Dr. Endriga’s remains lie in state at Chapel 1 of Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City. Public viewing will start this Wednesday, May 11, within 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will continue on May 12 to 14, within 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Internment will be this Sunday, May 15, 2022, after the 9 a.m. Mass.
Rest in peace, Dr. Endriga, and thank you for your Warrior service to your Alma Mater...
