[DLSU POLISCY’s Statement on the current Political Climate of the Philippines]

In the last months, as injustice is normalized and accountability becomes optional. DLSU POLISCY refuses to be silent as it becomes a form of tolerance.

Our country faces yet again a period of political uncertainty and danger, the nation and its people continues to witness how self-interest, patronage, violence, and abuse of power persist within the institutions that are supposed to discard these practices and uphold the law. From the inhumane killings of civilians through armed conflicts to the dangers of red-tagging, the consistent neglect of urgent needs of the people amid the political disputes, today’s political climate shows a government being detached from the realities faced by ordinary Filipinos.

At the same time, the public officials who are supposed to embody accountability are consistently implicated in corruption scandals and human rights issues. As they continue to evade accountability, they also expose the unequal justice system that often favors those who are in power.

In these situations, we are reminded that our democracy cannot be sustained by our institutions alone, but by its people who are willing to question, demand, and remember those who govern. A Filipino is one who continues to stand for truth, accountability, and a government that genuinely serves the public.

Makinig. Makielam. Manindigan.
