"𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧"

LOOK: With the moratorium for final thesis defense approaching, fourth year students in the BS Mechanical Engineering program at the College of Engineering were working hard in fabricating their prototypes. The IRTC-MEED faculty and staff are providing assistance to the students in their fabrication process, allowing them to use 3D printing services and machine operations to apply what they have learned. This is in line with IRTC-MEED's commitment not only to help students with their research but also to train and equip them for real-world applications beyond the university. We wish the future engineers all the best!

The IRTC-Manufacturing and Energy Engineering Department (MEED) recently provided 3D printing service to students from the TUP MANILA- College Of Engineering- Mechanical Engineering program. This service helps to fabricate a crucial component for the students' charcoal briquetting prototype. Prof. Gonzalo Salvador, faculty-in-charge of the Design and Fabrication laboratory provided his valuable assistance during the process.

3D printing is among the most utilized services offered by the MEED department, and it plays a critical role in simulating the innovative step incorporated in the machine's process before actual fabrication. This helps to prevent the waste of materials and additional costs associated with fabrication due to a lack of testing. Moreover, computer-aided design simulation is done before the printing process to ensure accuracy and precision.

For those who want to learn more about this service or have any inquiries, please don't hesitate to leave us a message or visit us at the MEED office, located on the 2nd floor of the IRTC Building at the Technological University of the Philippines -Manila. We're always happy to assist you.

The department's research efforts are focused on topics such as biofuels, energy management, and emission controls. To help support these efforts, MEED offers free engine performance and emission tests to undergraduate students from TUP, as well as senior high school (SHS) and junior high school (JHS) students. Research partners from other institutions can also avail of these tests for free. External clients and graduate students can take advantage of these services at a low cost.

Over the past few months, MEED has been busy conducting various engine performance and emission tests. Faculty members from Laguna State Polytechnic University-Sta. Cruz conducted their research on biodiesel and catalytic converter at the automotive laboratory on January 23-26, 2023. Last March 27, 2023, undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) program at TUP - Taguig conducted their thesis on coconut ethyl ester-diesel blends for engine performance and emission tests. Most recently, a graduate student conducted a thesis study on the analysis of the performance of used-cooking oil biodiesel-ethanol blend and received assistance from MEED.

These efforts demonstrate the commitment of MEED to advance the knowledge and skills of its students and partners in the field of biofuels and alternative energy. We look forward to more exciting developments from the department in the future.
