INTEGRITY. CREDIBILITY. HUMILITY.

Despite my busy schedule, I make it a point never to miss the annual gathering of campus journalists competing in the TV Broadcasting and Scriptwriting categories.

Each year, I’m inspired by how students and their school paper advisers (SPAs) bring their A-game — demonstrating creativity, teamwork, and an unwavering passion for truth-telling. Producing and airing a live newscast for nearly five hours is no small feat, and many of them already perform like seasoned professionals.

At a time when corruption, misinformation, and the misuse of AI continue to challenge credibility and critical thinking, it has never been more important to nurture integrity and journalistic values at the grassroots.

Some of the students I’ve trained since 2016 are now media practitioners — a testament to how early mentorship shapes future storytellers who value truth and accountability.

As in any competition, there will always be top performers. But true winners are those who embrace learning, growth, and the ability to celebrate small victories along the way.

Though I now work in a different industry, my advocacy endures. I remain committed to mentoring the next generation of journalists — future purveyors of truth who will uphold the integrity of the profession.
