🎉 Research Publication Spotlight 🎉

We are delighted to celebrate another research publication highlighting the collaborative efforts of members of the MD-PhD community in advancing biomedical research.

The research article, "Tapuy lees attenuate amyloid-β toxicity and dopaminergic neurodegeneration more effectively than Tapuy wine in C. elegans models of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease," was published in Discover Food.

It features the contributions of Mr. Mark Joseph R. Remucal (MD-PhD Batch 10 student), Mr. Junelle Rey C. Bacong (MD-PhD Batch 12 student), and Dr. Paul Mark B. Medina (MD-PhD Mentor).

The study demonstrates that Tapuy lees—the nutrient-rich byproduct of traditional Tapuy wine fermentation—more effectively attenuates amyloid-β toxicity and dopaminergic neurodegeneration than Tapuy wine itself in C. elegans models of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. These findings highlight the potential of Tapuy lees as a promising functional food ingredient for promoting brain health and support future research on neurodegenerative diseases.
