As we continue our month-long anniversary celebration of PALAFOX’s local and international legacy, we look back at Sta. Elena Golf and Country Estate in Sta. Rosa, Laguna—a premier master-planned sanctuary conceived in 1989 that transformed a vast expanse of former sugar fields into a world-class lifestyle destination.

Developed in collaboration with renowned designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the project features low-density enclaves, unique residential setups completely encircled by fairways, and a pristine 2.8-hectare recreational lake. Rather than functioning as a mere luxury amenity, the course serves as the organizing spine of the entire community, meticulously arranging homes to capture picturesque views, natural breezes, and maximum privacy.

This landmark estate beautifully embodies Arch. Palafox’s core developmental philosophy: that leisure landscapes must harmoniously respond to their unique climate, topography, and environmental systems rather than imposing rigid grids upon them. Under this vision of deep ecological stewardship, infrastructure was carefully engineered around the natural terrain. Roads were adjusted to safeguard mature trees, and an incredible two-thirds of the estate was dedicated strictly to green, open space. This thoughtful master planning allows the golf course to operate as essential green infrastructure, providing groundwater recharge, flood control, and localized cooling while actively protecting the land from speculative overdevelopment.

Today, Sta. Elena stands as a premier benchmark for multi-functional, climate-resilient architecture. It has been repeatedly named the "Best Course in the Philippines" by Asian Golf Monthly, and its thriving forests are certified by Audubon International as a cooperative sanctuary protecting hundreds of bird species. Nearly four decades later, it remains living proof that sustainable development and long-term land value can move forward together under one grand design.
