I came across this anonymous post about VUL.

The concept of VUL supports our Filipino belief of "Kapag may sinuksok, may dudukutin."

The creator of this post has reaped some of the minor benefits of having a VUL plan.
Their VUL plan remained in-force and continued to grow its investment while they couldn't pay because of financial challenges during the pandemic.
That same VUL plan allowed them to withdraw some of the earnings of their investment this year.
And that same VUL plan will save and help them when they need funds for their kid's education, retirement, or, when, God forbid, some unexpected event happens.
