August 25, 2025 | National Heroes Day

Today, August 25, 2025, we honor the courage and sacrifice of our heroes—both named in history and the many unknown, who gave their all for our freedom. Their bravery lives on in every act of hope, unity, and love for our nation, guiding us toward a brighter and stronger future.

As we remember their legacy, may we be inspired to become everyday heroes in our own ways through kindness, service, and responsibility. The spirit of heroism is not only found in the past, but also in the choices we make today for the generations to come.

SIUALA EDITORIAL | Remembering a Hero, Awakening a Nation

Every year, on August 21, the nation pauses to commemorate the death of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.—a man whose sacrifice helped ignite the flames of democracy, awakened a generation of Filipinos from silence and fear, and sparked a collective cry for freedom that ultimately led to the liberation of the Philippines.

Despite exile, imprisonment, and threats to his life, Ninoy returned to the Philippines knowing full well the dangers that awaited him. He once said, “The Filipino is worth dying for.” These words were not empty rhetoric, but a conviction that despite struggles and hardships, the Filipino people deserved freedom and a better future. His death became a catalyst that united millions, inspiring citizens to stand against dictatorship and oppression.

We honor Ninoy Aquino by embracing the values he lived and died for: courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the people. This means holding our leaders accountable, defending our freedoms, and refusing to be passive when injustice prevails. Remembering him is not only about looking back at his sacrifice, but also about challenging ourselves to believe, as he did, that the Filipino is worth dying for.

As we look back on Ninoy Aquino’s life, we must also look forward. We strive to build the nation we aspire to become. If Ninoy believed the Filipino was worth dying for, perhaps we should believe that the Philippines is worth living for. Through our daily choices and commitment to service, we can keep his dream alive.

Siuala is more than just a club; it is a family that cultivates young minds to become the best version of themselves.

Siuala means “voice”—and that is what we give premium to. One of the club's mantras is to give voice to the voiceless so that your voices can be heard. Aside from that, it is also our primary goal to give light to those who want to be seen for them to shine brighter than before.

Moreover, Siuala is the home of young journalists who advocate for the truth and betterment of the world. As we continue our adventure this school year 2025-2026, Siuala is here as a guide to your journey of becoming a journalist who will be heard and seen.

Together, let us write meaningful stories, inform the uneducated, and inspire people to become a star.
