Fuego de Santelmo

Long before the city lights, Mabalacat was my quiet land, full of trees and wide sugarcane fields called asucarera, where elders whispered the stories of Ing Santelmo, the mysterious balls of fire that ortelanos once saw in the middle of the field. From that sight, our place was named Barangay Atlu-Bola, the land of the three balls of fire, the land where I lived.

This tale began during the Spanish era. Spaniards called it Fuego de San Telmo, a strange but protective light that appeared during storms. This costume brings that legend to life, echoing the flame, the protection, and the history carried by the fields of Mabalacat.

And now, even as Mabalacat City changes with time, the santelmo reminds us that in every darkness, there is always a guiding light, one that continues to shine for all Kapampangans.
