Piercing Gun vs Piercing Needle * Most places use guns as it’s easier to train someone to use them. These places are not professional body piercers. * When training with a gun the course is only 2 hours long. This is not enough time to teach proper techniques for infection control and healing. * The piercing gun holds a blunt stud and when going through cartilage, it can shatter with blunt force. * The gun when triggered pinches the back of the jewellery snugly into place, which doesn’t allow any room for the piercing to breath, swell or heal properly. All studs are exactly the same size and goes with a “one size fits all” this is incorrect. As the butterfly back is put on way too tight you will experience increased swelling (it will swell naturally as part of the healing process, but it will swell worse if it doesn’t have room to swell). * Although the gun was designed only for ear lobes, there are places that offer cartilage and nose piercings with the gun. Cartilage can shatter with the pressure and blunt force of a piercing gun. * Places trained only by the gun will tell you that you should turn your piercings when cleaning twice a day.
