Senator Win Gatchalian thanked the Harvard Business School OPM Philippines Alumni Association for welcoming him during a gathering that focused on enterprise growth, strategy, and national policy.

In his post, Gatchalian said the country’s progress depends on strong cooperation between the government and the private sector. He said that when both sides work together, more opportunities can be created for ordinary Filipinos.

The message points to an important issue in nation-building: government policies can open doors, but businesses, workers, investors, and communities also play a big role in turning plans into real jobs, services, and livelihood.

For many Filipinos, progress is easier to feel when it reaches daily life—more work, better income, better education, and more chances for families to move forward. Real development is not only about speeches or events. It is about teamwork that brings real results to the people.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has arrived in Kazan, Russia for the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, according to his public post.

The visit marks 35 years of ASEAN-Russia relations and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Russia. Marcos said he looks forward to discussing cooperation, regional stability, partnerships, and opportunities that may help bring shared progress to the people.

The summit is expected to focus on strengthening dialogue between ASEAN and Russia, especially on areas that affect regional cooperation, economic partnerships, and long-term stability.

In times when the world faces many challenges, diplomacy remains important. For ordinary people, every meeting between nations should not only be about politics, but also about peace, jobs, safety, and opportunities that can improve lives. May every foreign trip bring real benefits to the Filipino people.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has blamed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the city’s worsening garbage problem after operations at the New Carmen Sanitary Landfill were suspended following a deadly trash slide. According to multiple news reports, the landfill was temporarily closed to allow slope stabilization and ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements after the May 20 incident.

Reports said the closure has caused delays in garbage collection, raising concerns about sanitation and public health as waste began piling up in parts of the city. Duterte argued that corrective measures could be done while allowing some landfill operations to continue, while DENR maintained that safety and compliance requirements must first be addressed.

The issue has now become both an environmental and public service concern, affecting ordinary residents who depend on regular waste collection. While officials debate responsibility, the immediate priority should be a safe, lawful, and practical solution that protects both the community and the people working in waste management.

This situation reminds us that public service is tested most during crisis. Blame may explain frustration, but coordination solves problems. When health, safety, and the environment are at stake, leaders must work faster, communicate clearly, and put the people’s welfare above political noise.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan are facing plunder and graft charges before the Sandiganbayan in connection with alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

According to multiple reports, the cases were filed by the Office of the Ombudsman on May 28 after a review of findings linked to the alleged misuse of public funds. Prosecutors alleged that the case involves flood control projects, public works allocations, and supposed kickbacks connected to government infrastructure spending.

Estrada has denied wrongdoing and questioned the timing of the filing, saying he will defend himself through legal means and pursue available remedies under the law. Reports also noted that this is another plunder case involving Estrada, who had previously faced separate plunder charges in past controversies and was acquitted in those cases.

As the case is now before the anti-graft court, the allegations must still be proven through evidence and due process. Estrada, Bonoan, and the other respondents remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

This issue is a reminder that public funds are not just government numbers; they represent protection from floods, safer communities, and services that ordinary families depend on. When corruption allegations arise, the public deserves truth and accountability, but justice must also remain fair, careful, and evidence-based. Real accountability is strongest when it protects both the people’s money and the people’s right to due process.
