Family Food Gardens in Tabon Island help local residents cope during trying times. Fresh, grown without chemical inputs, healthy. And a source of a little extra cash income.

Thousands of mangrove propagules were planted in Tabon's tidal waters last August 2025. The mangroves have a high survival rate. A barangay worker regularly removes debris caught between the young mangroves and replace damaged propagules. The mangroves have been planted to improve the protection of the island's coastal areas as the seawater level is rising, increasing risk of flooding and erosion. Yes, mangroves matter!

Announcing another year of DFI's LIFE project in Tabon Island, Batan, Aklan. The Livelihood, Food & Environment project is funded by DFI's long-time funding partner Christian World Service New Zealand (CWS) . We are excited for the coming months' activities and events in the Island Barangay of Tabon in close partnership with the barangay's Sanggunian and other stakeholders.
