This year’s Panagapoy turned out better than expected after afternoon rains delayed the early lighting of bonfires. The annual tradition draws locals returning home to honor their departed relatives, as well as tourists eager to witness this unique cultural observance during All Saints’ Day.

I hope that visitors will exercise mindfulness and respect during this event. Tour organizers, should stop misrepresenting it as a festival for entertainment. If you have the opportunity to attend, please observe the solemnity of the occasion and allow locals the space to honor and reconnect with their departed loved ones.
