The Lady Architect

I had the opportunity to present the Architectural Interior of the New Provincial Capitol of Basilan to the Provincial Government of Basilan yesterday. It is an honor because my father has Yakan blood in him so to be able to do this project and incorporate contemporary and "Yakan" design and apply proper space planning on the spaces within the project plus paying homeage to his hometown, we have been feeling enthusiastic.

I have to be honest though, it was my first time to speak and defend our proposal in front of government officials/clients (and as a young Architect) and I may have been nervous but what kept me going was to keep reminding myself that I need to keep my seat as a Professional.

I was so enthusiastic to share the details and my recommendations for the project that I actually forgot how nervous I felt. It was a feeling that felt similar to defending our design projects during our college years and thesis, and to our bosses during apprenticeship years, however this was really different because we are coming in as "consultants" and "Professionals" already. Every word that is bound to come out of our mouth is in fact a serious note.

So after the successful presentation, here we are having lunch called "DULANG" by the Basileños (locals from Basilan is called).

Oh and unfortunately due to the weak signal in this island (because the provincial government is repairing cell towers), my patience has been tested multiple times but one thing to take into account is to appreciate simple matters that is in front of us right now.

Step by step towards progress we shall all move forward to. 😊
