🌟 My Journey with Ubuntu & Cloudflare

Recently, I dove into managing my own Ubuntu server and hosting my PHP projects. Along the way, I learned a lot about keeping things secure, running processes efficiently, and exposing my projects to the web safely.

Technologies I worked with:
✅ Ubuntu Server
✅ PHP & Apache/Nginx
✅ Cloudflare Tunnel (.trycloudflare.com)
✅ tmux (for persistent sessions)

It’s amazing how hands-on learning can take you from troubleshooting to having a live, secure project online. 💻

Deploying my web service on Render.com seemed straightforward — Docker image built, static files served, environment variables injected, everything green ✅. But then I hit the infamous InfinityFree MySQL wall. External connections? Denied. php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed — apparently, my Render container can’t resolve the hostname because InfinityFree thinks internal-only MySQL access is best 🙃. Spent hours debugging DB_HOST, DB_USERNAME, DB_PASSWORD, only to realize free tiers come with invisible network ACLs. Lesson learned: free hosting + external deployment = adventure in network frustration. Welcome to , where the logs are long, the stack traces are longer, and the caffeine is mandatory ☕💻.

💻 XAMPP Control Panel v3.3.0 — a tool that’s been around since 2016 (or maybe even earlier!) and many developers have used it to set up local servers quickly.

But here’s the question: Is XAMPP still worth using or learning in 2025?

Great for beginners learning web development locally

Newer tools like Docker offer more flexibility & scalability

Other local server environments like Local by Flywheel or MAMP are gaining traction

🔹 So, should you still use it?
If you’re starting out, testing quick projects, or learning PHP/MySQL basics — YES! XAMPP remains a solid and easy choice.
For advanced projects or professional environments, exploring newer tech might be better.
