Magnitude 5.4 quake shakes Occidental Mindoro
Phivolcs says aftershocks are expected after the magnitude-5.4 quake near Looc, Occidental Mindoro.
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Occidental Mindoro on Monday evening, October 19, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to the agency's latest bulletin, the earthquake happened at 9:50 pm. Its location was recorded 19 km northeast of Looc, Occidental Mindoro.
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 101 kilometers.
The quake was also felt in the following areas:
Intensity V - Batangas City
Intensity IV - Tagaytay City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Mandaluyong City; Makati City, Pasay City
Intensity III - Clark, Pampanga; General Trias, Cavite, Malolos, Bulacan; Bacoor, Cavite; Obando, Bulacan
Intensity II - Pateros
In its own report, the U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.8 with a recorded depth of 105 km.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected after the quake.
