DISTINCTIVE PILLARS OF SDA FAITH (7 S's)

1. Scripture (Bible as Foundation)

The Bible is the supreme authority in faith and life.

Adventists believe in Sola Scriptura — that the Word of God is the ultimate rule of faith and practice.

2. Sabbath

The seventh-day Sabbath (Saturday) is God’s holy day, instituted at Creation and reaffirmed in the Ten Commandments.

It is a day of rest, worship, and fellowship with God.

3. Sanctuary

The heavenly sanctuary is where Christ ministers as our High Priest.

The investigative judgment, beginning in 1844, is part of this sanctuary doctrine and unique to Adventist theology.

4. State of the Dead

Adventists believe in conditional immortality — the dead are unconscious until the resurrection at Christ’s second coming.

Rejects the idea of an immortal soul that goes to heaven or hell at death.

5. Spirit of Prophecy

The prophetic gift, manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White, is regarded as a fulfillment of Revelation 12:17 and 19:10.

Her writings are seen as a lesser light pointing to the greater light (the Bible).

6. Stewardship

Faithful management of life, time, talents, health, environment, and possessions.

Includes tithes and offerings, healthy living, and service.

7. Simple Living

A lifestyle marked by modesty, healthful living, and separation from worldly extravagance.

Emphasizes temperance, simplicity, and preparing for Christ’s soon return.
