"The Rewind We Never Had"

Every Sunday, the house used to be filled with laughter — the kind that echoed from wall to wall. Kids running around, toys scattered like confetti, and stories told between spoonfuls of rice and fried chicken. But lately, things had changed.

Lola Nena sat quietly in her favorite chair by the window. Her eyes watched the room, but her mind seemed far away. Her children and grandchildren were there — they always made time — but she didn’t smile as much anymore. Instead, she scolded the children for being noisy or complained about the mess. She had grown used to the quiet, to her own space, away from the everyday chaos of family.

Her grandson, little Eli, noticed the change. While the other kids played, he climbed beside her, placed his small hand on hers, and whispered, “Lola, are you mad we’re here?”

She didn’t answer right away. Her eyes welled up — not from anger, but from guilt. She suddenly realized that in chasing silence, she was losing the moments that mattered most. The games, the laughter, the mess — it was all part of life. A life still choosing her.

That afternoon, Lola Nena didn’t withdraw. She stayed, baked her famous banana bread, and even joined the kids for a silly game of charades. The living room echoed with laughter again — hers included.

Because that day, she finally understood:
There’s no rewind button in life. Spend time with your family while you can — especially when they’re still trying to spend it with you.
