UNITY STATEMENT AGAINST THE RECENT ACCUSATIONS AND REDTAGGING OF THE MILITARY ON UP DILIMAN AND UP MANILA

We, student councils, organizations, publications, and youth leaders, vehemently condemn to the highest degree the recent accusation of the military that our campuses, UP Diliman and UP Manila, are among the universities where the CPP-NPA are recruiting students to oust President Duterte. This is a grave violation of our democratic rights and is clearly intended to redtag us, the students, in an attempt to discredit and pacify the growing dissent among our ranks against the atrocities of this regime.

The whole “Red October” ouster plot propagated by the President, his cronies, and his military goons is nothing but proof of what the priority of our state is. Instead of addressing the lack of free education for the youth, the skyrocketing prices of basic goods and services, and the rampant extra-judicial killings in the country, the Duterte administration chose to turn its back on us. The implications of this barbaric accusation can lead to attacks against our right to organize and to express our aversion to the true state of our nation.

Evidently, President Duterte is mimicking the dirty tactics of the late dictator Marcos. The people know the truth. And the truth is that we are facing another tyrant and amid all the repression, we are determined to resist and fight. We call on our fellow students, the whole UP community, and the people to unite as one in resisting the state’s crackdown and in fighting the tyranny and dictatorship in the face of President Duterte.

Just like in the successful September 21 United People’s Action, the youth will fight this October once more! Join the Black Friday Protest on October 5 and the Nationwide Walkout on October 12!

Para sa pasistang rehimeng US-Duterte, ito ang panahon ng panlilinlang, pambubusabos at pang-aapi sa mamamayan. Ngunit para sa mga kabataan, ang krisis na ito ang panibagong yugto ng higit na paglubog sa karanasan ng masa, pagsusuri at pagpapalakas ng ating pagkakaisa at pakikibaka!

Ipinaaabot ng ENGAGE UP ang taas-kamaong pagpupugay at malugod na pagsuporta sa matagumpay na welgang inilunsad ngayong araw ng mga manggagawa ng Coca-Cola FEMSA Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Ayon sa Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan (PAMANTIK), halos isang taon nang iginigiit ng mga manggagawa na maipatupad ang desisyon ng DOLE R-IVA na inilabas noong April 2017 na nagsasabing dapat kilalanin ng kumpanya bilang mga regular na manggagawa ang 675 kontraktwal nito. Gayumpaman, patuloy na nagmamatigas ang pamunuan ng Coca-Cola FEMSA sa pagpapatupad ng nasabing desisyon kaya natulak kaninang umaga ang paglalabas ng isang writ of ex*****on na iniuutos ang agarang implementasyon ng desisyon ng DOLE R-IVA.

Naniniwala ang ENGAGE UP na bilang mga Inhenyero ng Bayan, tungkulin nating kilalanin na mahigpit nating kakampi ang mga manggagawa sa pakikibaka para sa pambansang industriyalisasyon. Kung tayo ay may teorya ng physics, engineering, chemistry, at iba pang kaalaman, mga manggagawa naman ang may sapat na praktika sa mga ito sa kanilang araw-araw na karanasan sa paggawa. Kung gayon, marapat lang na samahan natin sila sa kanilang laban para sa mas maayos na kalagayan sa pagtatrabaho.
