In celebration of Women’s Month, the LIFE Behind Bars Program, through its Education Behind Bars Project, successfully conducted an extension activity entitled “Kompos sa Loob ng Rehas” on March 06, 2026 at the BJMP Digos City District Jail – Female Dormitory.
The activity was organized in partnership with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of Davao del Sur State College, highlighting the institution’s commitment to gender-responsive community engagement and transformative education. The session focused on a creative writing workshop where the participants composed personal reflections based on the writing prompt “Babae Ako: Ako ay ______.” Through this activity, the women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) were given a meaningful space to express their identities, experiences, aspirations, and inner strength through the art of composition writing.
“Kompos sa Loob ng Rehas” aimed not only to develop the participants’ writing skills but also to encourage self-expression, empowerment, and emotional reflection among the women PDLs. The activity served as a platform for their voices to be heard, recognizing that even behind bars, their stories, resilience, and dignity as women continue to inspire. This initiative reflects the continuing commitment of the LIFE Behind Bars Program and its partners to promote education, empowerment, and hope among incarcerated women.
