TSI MMT - Multipartite Monitoring Team

On March 25, 2026, Therma South, Inc. (TSI) hosted its first-quarter Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) meeting and site inspection. The session featured a proactive review of TSI’s environmental management plan implementation across land, water, air, and social sectors. Along with highlighting Q1 achievements, the team also outlined upcoming projects and collaborative activities for future implementation.

In honor of Zero Waste Month (January), Therma South, Inc. (TSI) teamed up with its Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) to host an engaging environmental program focused on the youth. The event welcomed students from Binugao National High School, Inawayan National High School, and Rogationist Academy-Davao Davao to the TSI plant for a day of learning and advocacy.

The session kicked off with an overview of TSI’s operations and its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Ms. May Lopez-Jugan from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro-Lgu Davao del Sur) led an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) session. She discussed the policies governing Zero Waste Month and shared practical ways the younger generation can champion waste reduction.

To wrap up the day, students participated in a spirited environmental quiz bee, testing their knowledge on ecological issues and conservation.

The Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) of Therma South, Inc. selected SPI Power, Inc. for their Lakbay Aral this year. The benchmarking focused on key areas, including SPI Power, Inc.'s nearly two decades of operational resiliency, its successful environmental conservation programs, and its community-advancing social development initiatives.

SPI Power, Inc., located in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, is Mindanao's first coal-fired power plant and the first in the country to implement the 24/7 online Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS). The company rebranded from its former name, STEAG State Power Inc., after Aboitiz Power Corporation (AP) acquired a majority ownership stake from STEAG GmbH, a transition that began in 2023.

On March 13, 2025, the Multipartite Monitoring Team of Therma South, Inc. conducted their 1st Quarter MMT Meeting and Site Inspection for the year.

The meeting was participated by the members from DENR CENRO Davao, Municipal Planning and Development Office of Sta. Cruz, Institute of Socio Economic Development, Inc., DENR PENRO Davao del Sur, Ateneo de Davao University, Toril Urban Health Center, Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office, DENR CENRO Davao del Sur, Barangay Inawayan, and Department of Energy Mindanao Field Office assisted by TSI’s Environmental Unit.

The team discussed and reviewed TSI's environmental management updates. A significant aspect of the meeting also involved the site inspection, during which team members monitored and verified the implementation of current environmental mitigation strategies by TSI. The data gathered from this inspection will be utilized in the preparation of the Compliance Monitoring and Validation Report (CMVR), which is being generated by the team.
