The Senate unanimously voted to approve the proposed Revised Animal Welfare Act on third reading on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Sponsored by Sen. Grace Poe, Senate Bill No. 2975, which establishes a system of supervision and regulation of keeping, handling, transporting, breeding, training, and treating animals, among others, is seen to put an end to the spate of animal cruelty in the country.

"The bill is not merely token legislation. We cannot continue treating animal protection as an after-thought...More importantly, it is a declaration of dignity," Poe said as she called on the passage of a counterpart bill in the House of Representatives.
