THIN CRUST

A strong model of ethics in universities must be both foundational and integrated: foundational in that there is a dedicated, rigorous space where ethical principles, moral reasoning, and the nature of the human person are systematically taught and deeply examined; and integrated in that these principles are then lived out, tested, and contextualized across disciplines like communication, technology, labor, and data. When integration replaces foundation, ethics risks becoming thin, diffused into themes, mentioned but not mastered, applied without being first understood.

The result may be graduates who can reference ethical terms in many contexts but lack the depth, coherence, and moral clarity to navigate real dilemmas. Integration works best when it rests on a strong core; without that anchor, ethics becomes fragmented, inconsistent, and vulnerable to being reduced to compliance or trend-based concerns rather than a stable guide for human action and responsibility.
