SPORTS FESTIVAL STRENGTHENS UNITY BETWEEN 314TH CGAS SWM AND KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Wellness Program Underscores Brotherhood, Service Readiness_

DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte – The 314th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron – Southwestern Mindanao (314th CGAS SWM) and the Knights of Columbus held a joint Sports Festival on 10 MAY 2027 at OLINGAN, DIPOLOG CITY, promoting camaraderie, wellness, and inter-organizational unity among volunteers dedicated to service.

The activity forms part of the Wellness Program of the 314th CGAS SWM, actively encouraged by Squadron Director AUX LCDR FERDINAND B. DINAMPO PCGA, to ensure that members remain physically and mentally fit for the demands of auxiliary service.

Leading the 314th CGAS SWM delegation was the *FIRST Division under Division Commander AUX LT RIC LAO SARCENO PCGA, who fielded teams alongside their counterparts from the Knights of Columbus.

“*Sports is more than competition. It is camaraderie built on sweat, respect, and shared purpose,*” said AUX LCDR Dinampo in his message. “This Sports Festival between the 314th CGAS SWM and the Knights of Columbus is a testament to what happens when two organizations, bound by service and faith in community, come together beyond the walls of duty.”

Benefits of the Sports Festival highlighted during the program:

1. Unity in Service– Despite wearing different uniforms, both groups serve the same community. The festival strengthened ties that directly improve coordination during disaster response, outreach, and civic action.

2. Physical & Mental Wellness – The event reinforced that fitness is not vanity but readiness. A healthy body builds a healthy mind, crucial for volunteers on call 24/7.

3. Character Building – Sports instilled discipline, teamwork, humility in defeat, and grace in victory, the same values upheld by Auxiliarists and Knights.

4. Community Example – The public display of cooperation showed that service can be joyful, inspiring the youth that leadership and brotherhood can coexist with healthy recreation.

5. Morale & Esprit de Corps – Beyond drills and meetings, the festival provided members a chance to bond, compete, and build memories that keep the spirit of volunteerism alive.

“To the 314th CGAS SWM FIRST Division headed by AUX LT Ric Lao Sarceno and the Knights of Columbus: may this festival not end in scores, but in stronger friendships and renewed commitment to serve God, country, and community,” AUX LCDR Director Dinampo added. “May the best team win, but may brotherhood win even more.”

The Sports Festival ended with awarding ceremonies and a fellowship lunch, sealing a new chapter of partnership between the two service-oriented groups.
