โ๏ธ๐ก POV: Signal Light Controller Assembly Replacement
As part of maintenance and troubleshooting onboard, I carried out the replacement of the Signal Light Controller Assembly to restore proper operation of the vesselโs signal and navigation lights.
During the job, I performed the following:
โ๏ธ Isolated and secured the power supply before starting work
โ๏ธ Removed the faulty controller assembly and inspected wiring connections
โ๏ธ Installed the new signal light controller and ensured proper terminal connections
โ๏ธ Verified correct operation of all navigation and signal lights from the control panel
โ๏ธ Conducted functional testing to confirm normal operation and alarm indications
The replacement was completed successfully, restoring reliable control of the shipโs signal lighting system and ensuring compliance with navigation safety requirements.
โ๏ธ๐ก๏ธ POV: Annual Thermal Scanning of MSB & GSP (Group Starter Panel)
As part of the annual preventive maintenance onboard, I conducted thermal scanning of the Main Switchboard (MSB) and Group Starter Panel (GSP) to detect any abnormal temperature rise in electrical components.
During the inspection, I carried out the following:
โ๏ธ Used a thermal imaging camera to scan busbars, breakers, contactors, overload relays, and cable terminations
โ๏ธ Checked for hotspots, loose connections, and phase imbalance
โ๏ธ Verified that all temperature readings were within normal operating limits under load condition
โ๏ธ Paid close attention to motor feeders and starter circuits in the group starter panel
โ๏ธ Recorded and documented all findings for maintenance reference
The inspection confirmed that the MSB and Group Starter Panel are in good condition, with no abnormal overheating detected. This ensures reliability of motor circuits and helps prevent electrical faults and fire hazards onboard.
๐ฅ๐งฏ POV: Annual COโ System Servicing (With Shore Technician)
Our COโ Fixed Fire Fighting System was serviced by an authorized shore technician, with me assisting and monitoring onboard.
โ๏ธ Alarm & operation test (simulation, no discharge)
โ๏ธ Verified pre-discharge alarms, time delay, and interlocks
โ๏ธ Air pressure test on pilot lines (leak check)
โ๏ธ COโ cylinders inspected, weighed, and thickness tested
โ๏ธ Checked signals on bridge and ECR
๐จโ๐ง My role: assist, coordinate with crew, monitor panels, and record results
โ ๏ธ System isolated, no actual discharge, crew informed
โ
System reset, no faults, fully operational
Ensuring everything works today means safety is guaranteed when it matters most. ๐ง๐ข๐ฅ
๐ ๐ก๏ธ POV: Thermocouple Indicator Battery Replacement
POV: Another small but important task onboard โ replacing the digital thermocouple indicator battery for the No.1โ3 cylinder exhaust gas inlet temperature of the diesel generator.
Noticed the indicator showing no display due to low battery. Secured the unit, opened the thermocouple indicator, and carefully replaced the internal battery.
After installation, powered the unit back on and verified normal display and accurate temperature readings from the No.1โ3 cylinder exhaust gas inlet sensors.
Simple maintenance, but important to keep engine temperature monitoring reliable during generator operation. โ๏ธโ
๐ โ๏ธ POV: Solenoid Valve Replacement โ M/E F.O. Backwash Filter
POV: Another maintenance task in the engine room โ replacing the solenoid valve of the Main Engine Fuel Oil backwash filter after irregular operation was observed.
Isolated the power supply and secured the system before removing the defective solenoid valve. Inspected the wiring and valve connections, then installed the new solenoid with proper tightening and reconnection.
After energizing the system, monitored the backwash operation to ensure the solenoid was functioning normally with no alarms.
Simple replacement, but important to keep the fuel oil filtration system operating smoothly for the main engine. โ๏ธโ
