Word Today
Matthew 7:7-12
02/26/26

In today’s Gospel Acclamation: “A clean heart create for me, God…” By asking him to create for us a clean heart, we open our hearts to his providence and serving action. A “clean heart” is not an empty heart; it is filled with God, as we proclaim in the tradition Prayer to the Holy Spirit: “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.”

In today’s Gospel, he encourages us to persevere through them. He tells us to ask until it is given, to seek until it is found, and to knock until the door is opened. “Lord, I called for help” today “you answered me:” We fast, abstain, give alms, and pray, not so much because we are giving up some things, but rather because we are making space for Divine Providence.

Brothers and sisters, these Lenten disciplines remind us that life is not about always getting what we want. By eating less, spending less, and taking less time for ourselves, we “call for help.” We realign our priorities in order to rely on God as our real provider. We allow the Lord to “rebuild up strength” within us. In giving away our goods in almsgiving, we allow the Lord to “complete what he has done” for us. In our praying more, we are placed “in the presence of angels.”

Mama Mary, Mother of Hope, strengthen our faith and keep us steadfast in prayer during this Lenten journey.

Shalom ❤️
